Reunions

At the end of 1991, work began on organizing a trip for the residents of this town who had emigrated to Argentina and Uruguay, who had their roots in Arnoia and who, in many cases, had never been able to return to their homeland. It took place in the summer of 1992.

The trip was offered to all those who were 60 years of age or older and had not returned for at least 10 years.

Those who did not meet these requirements were also offered the chance to travel with a significant discount on the ticket price and to take part in all the activities organized once they were here.

A total of 322 applications were received from fellow townspeople who wished to visit their town, and, on this occasion, 174 came. The rest dropped out for various reasons.

The following took part in co-financing the trip and the activities organized once they had arrived in their homeland:

• Concello de Arnoia.
• Xunta de Galicia.
• Deputación de Ourense .
• Caixa Ourense.

With this initiative, the Concello de Arnoia wished to acknowledge the important work they had done for their homeland.

In 1995, 64 residents of Arnoia (among them the bagpipe group “Airiños de Arnoia”) returned the visit on an unforgettable trip for all those who were able to enjoy a week in Buenos Aires, the Iguazú Falls, and Luján in Argentina, as well as several cities in Uruguay.
